A walk through Haga on your own can be simple: start at Haga Church, follow Haga Nygata, and end at Järntorget. Here you will find an order to follow, with time for facades, shops, and fika. If you want a longer walk, you can add Skansen Kronan. This is a standalone excursion, not the game route in The Mystery in Haga.

Open the map and choose how much you want to walk
- Start: Haga Church.
- Main route: Haga Nygata, via the eastern and western parts of the street.
- End: Järntorget.
- Suggested time: 60–90 minutes for a leisurely walk with stops. Fika and the optional viewpoint detour are extra.
- Distance: expect around one kilometer with minor detours. The time and distance are estimates; the map choices and your stops will determine them.
Open the basic walk in Google Maps. Skansen Kronan is not included in that map link but is a separate optional addition.
Haga Church and Järntorget are also nearby bus stops according to Gothenburg's visitor guide. Check current public transport and any construction work before your trip.
1. Haga Church: gather before you enter the neighborhoods
Decide on a clear meeting point outside the church. When everyone has arrived, you can open the map and see where Haga Nygata begins in relation to you. Let one person navigate the first part and then switch so that everyone can look up from their phone.
A church visit is a separate option with current visiting hours. The basic walk does not require you to go inside. If you would rather play our mystery, you should follow the starting information provided in the product description and materials.
2. Haga Nygata: look both in shop windows and up
Follow Haga Nygata through the neighborhood. Gothenburg's official guide describes Haga as one of the city's oldest neighborhoods, with cafes, small shops, and governor's residences. Look at how the ground floors of the buildings differ from the floors above, rather than trying to visit every shop.
Stop in a place where you do not obstruct pedestrian traffic. Let everyone choose a detail that the others did not see at first. Only enter businesses that are open and welcome visitors; private courtyards are not part of the walk.
3. Choose fika along the way
If you want a clear landmark, you can orient yourself at Haga Nygata 28, where Café Husaren is located. It is a well-known option for those who want to try a Haga bun, but no part of the walk requires a purchase there. Choose another cafe if it suits your group better.
Check opening hours, offerings, and prices directly with the cafe. Fika is separate from both the walk and any potential mystery. More about planning the break itself can be found in the guide to fika and mysteries.
4. Continue west or choose the view
Follow Haga Nygata further west and then to Järntorget according to the map. It will be a defined tour where you do not need to make a large loop through all of Gothenburg. Feel free to read our broader Haga guide if you want to add more stops.
If everyone wants to walk more, you can make a separate detour to Skansen Kronan. The viewpoint is on a hill and requires more effort than the main route. Assess the hills, stairs, weather, and energy before choosing it. Do not leave anyone in the group with an unexpectedly difficult section.
When is a mystery a good addition?
If you want the walk to have a story and a common goal, The Mystery in Haga can be an option. You solve a fictional case with a physical booklet, the surroundings, and the Archive on your phone. No one in the group needs to be a game master.
The game is a separate activity with its own instructions, not a task to perform at each of the stops above. Order the materials in advance and leave time for the mystery itself. More about the setup can be found in the guide to city mysteries in Gothenburg.
Plan according to terrain and weather
Cobblestones, crowds, and changing weather can affect a short walk more than the number of kilometers. Choose shoes for the terrain and make sure everyone can stand comfortably when you look at something. If accessibility adjustments are needed, you need to check the practicalities before the visit; this guide is not an accessibility inventory.
During autumn and winter, an earlier start can make it easier to see details and read materials outdoors. Check current conditions on the day you are going to walk. If the weather is not suitable, it is better to shorten the excursion than to stick to every stop.
